Drumroots specialises in a range of African drumming workshops including corporate development and team building events sessions. Our team building sessions are designed to encourage groups of colleagues, new or old to integrate and more closely together using rhythm. The workshops can be tailored to suit a specific event or timetable to suit your conference of annual general meeting, and we can run workshops of over one hundred participants. We have run workshops for many organisations, such as the NHS, UK Sport and Centre Parks, all of whom have had an excellent experience and given us glowing feedback. Last month, the Drumroots team were invited to deliver a West African music performance at the Health and Care Innovation Expo 2014, hosted at the Manchester Central by NHS England. This prestigious event was to showcase and celebrate improvement in healthcare in this country and as a convergence of people at the cutting edge of innovative health care, and who have dedicated their careers to quality patient care. Following on from the success of our recent weekend workshops, Drumroots is pleased to announce we will be running a workshop for our friend, collaborator and awesome djembe teacher, Sidiki Dembele. Sidiki, from the Ivory Coast is one of the country’s top djembe players, regularly appearing not only with our own performance group Tanante but with other groups country and worldwide, including the mighty Ballet Nimba. Sidiki is an outstanding performer whose energy and charisma is clear to see in his unique teaching style contributing to the excellent reputation of his renowned and exciting workshops. (more…)
We’re back for another special workshop led by African djembe master, Iya Sako from Guinea. Iya is an incredibly powerful djembe player who has an encouraging and gentle teaching style and is in high demand for concerts and performances throughout the UK.
These sessions have become popular and well attended regular workshops at the Z Arts centre, Manchester. Iya’s unique, patient and encouraging teaching style allows djembe and dundun players of all levels to gain a huge amount of enjoyment and fun from the workshops whilst all being adequately pushed through their paces every time. It’s been a long time since we put some new studio recordings out there and these ones have been ‘in the can’ for quite some time, but finally we are pleased to release three brand new Tanante demo tracks for 2014. The three tracks; Mendiani, Djaa and Dununba, were first recorded over two years ago with our techno man and studio wizard Andy Garvey. In the first session, Tananate along with special guest artists Iya Sako, Sidiki Dembele and Baba Galle laid down live tracks, which we then more recently added the vocals to and finally mixed them down, all at Studio Z (Z Arts Centre).
