We run community projects that provide short-term or long-term support to a number of diverse and different groups. Here are some examples of past and current Drumroots community programmes:
Global Grooves @ Band on the Wall
We delivered one the first Learning & Participation projects at the newly refurbished Band On The Wall in October 2009.
Royal Northern College of Music
Drumroots Djembe Project began in 2008, offering staff and students the opportunity to experience the traditional rhythms of West Africa. Drumroots continues working with the RNCM, fostering new community approaches to music for staff and students.
Groundwork Cheshire (Youth Arts)
Drumroots deliver workshops that engage individuals where they live, building confidence, reducing anti-social behaviour and enabling young people to play a fuller part in their community.
OJ’s Sensory Interaction Trust
Drumroots has provided family drumming activities for OJ’s Sensory Interaction Trust, which provides educational and recreational events for families with autistic children.
Bolton Dementia Support Group
In cooperation with carers, Drumroots has worked with older people experiencing dementia, using the drum as a tool for communication, expression, and relaxation.
Sacred Heart School, Gorton, Manchester
Using West African rhythms and songs, 35 pupils formed their own troupe, working with Drumroots over several months to create a major theatre performance.
Wythenshawe Drumming Group for Older People
This is our longest-running project, featuring participants up to 92 years of age. The group has a great spirit and members have become highly skilled performers.!
International Women’s Week
Hosting women’s drum-circles to bring women of diverse faiths, cultures and backgrounds in Manchester together in a celebration of unity.
