Drumroots Team Building Event for Campus Living Villages

Last week we the Drumroots team had the pleasure of running a corporate team building event for the enthusiastic employees of the organisation Campus Living Villages. The workshop was hosted in the prestigious venue of The Place Hotel, Manchester right in the city centre, near Piccadilly train station and the session was designed to help the staff unwind at the end of a day of meetings and discussions, and bring them together in a fun activity. The thirty or so staff present where clearly up for it and there was already a good group vibe in the conference suite for us to build on.

Although most employees present seemed to know one another already, we started the drumming session with a couple of ice breakers for us to get know them a little. From the outset the participants were having a laugh and a joke, and they seemed to be enjoying themselves greatly, once we got onto playing some rhythms together, for a mixed group of people, most of whom had never played a djembe or any hand percussion, they responded very well to the new challenges set before them. Though the use of a combination of games and technique exercises we were able to get the whole group to work closely together, and in the single workshop we helped them to play a traditional African piece of music, complete with multiple accompaniments, an arranged break and even got each participant to have a go at some free style soloing!

The whole session was full of laughs and smiles and we were very happy with the enthusiasm with which all the staff took to the activity, and how at well motivated they were to give our workshop their all.

After the drumming session many of the employees of Campus Living Villages were sufficiently interested in us and our organisation that they stayed on to ask us about Drumroots and what we do, and they even invited us to stay on for a drink at the end (which sadly we had to turn down as we were off to another job….’thanks all same guys!’)
