Can you imagine the energy of 126 people, each with a Djembe drum, creating powerful rhythms together? That’s exactly what we experienced yesterday at Castlefield Rooms, located right in the heart of Manchester city centre, where we hosted a surprise African drumming workshop for Lloyds Bank’s staff.

The challenge? Sneaking in 126 Djembe drums without anyone noticing! With the beautiful Castlefield Canal just outside the large glass windows, the setting was perfect, but we had to keep our drums hidden until after the morning session. As soon as the delegates left for lunch, our team sprang into action, setting up all the drums in neat rows. The stage was set for an unforgettable surprise.

When the Lloyds Bank staff returned, the Drumroots team greeted them with a lively drumming performance. The room instantly filled with excitement as we played an upbeat rhythm to set the tone. The surprise on their faces was priceless as they saw the room filled with Djembe drums, each ready for them to play.

We kicked off the session with some warm-up exercises and basic drumming techniques to get everyone comfortable and in rhythm. Once the group had grasped the basics, we introduced “Sinte,” a traditional rhythm from Guinea. Step by step, we broke down the rhythm into manageable parts, and soon the entire room was playing together in sync. The sound of 126 drums resonating as one filled the space, blending beautifully with the canal view and the sunlight pouring through the windows.

By the end of the workshop, the energy in the room was electric. The Lloyds Bank team not only learned a traditional rhythm but also bonded through a shared experience that energized and uplifted everyone. It was an incredible day, set against the stunning backdrop of Castlefield Rooms.

If you’re looking for a way to energize and connect your team, why not try an African drumming workshop? Let’s create something unforgettable at your next corporate event!

Here’s a few words from Jackie from Lloyds bank:

‘thanks again for last week, there have been lots of compliments and the team really enjoyed themselves!

The ‘after lunch’ slot is a notoriously difficult one, usually trying to keep everyone awake after a buffet lunch. Not this time!

Walking into the room to the beat of the drums set the scene for a fantastic hour with the team and amazingly we did manage to stay in time (sort of).

Great to see everyone smiling and having fun while creating some great sounds together and much better than building towers from marshmallow and spaghetti!

Thanks so much – it was brilliant!!’
