This Black History Month, Drumroots partnered with One Manchester to share the joy and power of African drumming across communities. We led workshops in Fallowfield, Clayton, Gorton, and Hulme, each location bringing a unique energy as we celebrated African culture through rhythm and unity.

Day 1 in Fallowfield: A Family Affair

Our series began in Fallowfield, where parents and children drummed side by side. This session was all about family, with participants of all ages discovering the thrill of drumming together. From call-and-response rhythms to improvised beats, everyone embraced the drums and shared an unforgettable experience.

Day 2 in Clayton: A Session for the Little Ones

In Clayton, our audience was primarily younger children, whose curiosity and enthusiasm brought a lively spirit to the session. They took to the djembe and dundun drums with excitement, creating vibrant sounds that filled the room. It was incredible to see them connect with the music, each child finding their rhythm in the heartbeat of the drum.

Day 3 in Gorton: Drumming Close to Home

Our third workshop was in Gorton, conveniently near our own location. Here, we had children of all ages, bringing together diverse energy and creating a harmonious soundscape. Gorton’s community embraced the session with open arms, showcasing the powerful ways drumming can bring people together.

Day 4 in Hulme: A Beat for the Teens

Our final session took place in Hulme, where we had a room full of teenagers eager to express themselves through music. The energy was electric as they mastered the rhythms and brought their unique style to the drums. Their beats were powerful, echoing the pride and passion of Black History Month.

Celebrating Culture, Building Community

With each session, we saw communities come together to celebrate history, heritage, and unity through African drumming. Thank you to One Manchester for supporting these workshops and to everyone who joined us to make this Black History Month unforgettable!
