A Powerful African Drumming Performance at Amazon DSA6 for Black History Month

Amazon Black History Month

We were delighted to deliver a high-energy African drumming performance at the Amazon DSA6 warehouse in Wakefield as part of their Black History Month celebrations. With around 900 staff in attendance, the warehouse was buzzing long before the first drumbeat. It proved to be one of our most exciting West African music events of the year.

Our line-up for this Black History Month performance brought together a group of world-class African artists, including:

  • Iya Sako – master djembe player from Guinea
  • Jokeh Sillah – electrifying African dancer
  • Aime Jarju – dynamic West African dancer
  • Sefo Kanuteh – extra special guest, balafon maestro and traditional Griot

Having two phenomenal African dancers like Jokeh and Aime elevated the whole event. Their energy, movement and charisma had Amazon staff up on their feet within minutes. The warehouse transformed into a celebration of African dance, rhythm and joy—exactly the spirit we love to bring to our performances.

A particularly memorable moment was performing with Sefo Kanuteh for the very first time. Sefo, a highly respected Griot and balafon master, has recently moved close to Manchester, and this debut collaboration added something truly unique to our live African drumming show. His melodic balafon lines blended beautifully with the djembe and dunun, offering Amazon staff an authentic taste of West African musical tradition.

Amazon also treated everyone to African doughnuts—the same delicious style we enjoy during our trips to Guinea—alongside plenty of fizzy drinks. And we have to admit… by the end of the night, we definitely overdid it on the doughnuts, before taking a generous stash of leftovers home!

Performing at Amazon DSA6 for Black History Month was an incredible experience and a wonderful opportunity to share African drumming, dance and culture with such an enthusiastic crowd. Huge thanks to the team for inviting us and for embracing the rhythms, movement and stories of West Africa with so much warmth.

If you’re looking for an unforgettable African drumming performance, corporate workshop, or West African music event, Drumroots would love to bring the energy to your venue.
