We’re taking our newer and bigger group, The Beat Artistes to this year’s Parklife festival, Sunday June 10th 2012. This group, guided by Maitre Samsou, has been working hard over the winter since our debut appearance to hone and polish our highly dynamic and choreographed performance set ready for the big stage. Parklife festival attracts thousands of dance music revellers who will take an hour’s break from drum and bass, techno and dubstep to witness this awesomely powerful drumming group. Adding to this performance spectacle we’ll be joined by the incredibly clear and powerful sounds of djembe soloist Iya Sako.
Despite the slow sales of ticket at first, in the early New Year things have picked up and the Mamady Keita Weekend Workshop 2012 and evening performance at Bristol’s DMAC (Dance, Music, Arts Collective) is now confirmed! For those that don’t know, Madady Keita is the world’s most famous djembe player and teacher and we are lucky enough to have him visit the UK for a weekend of workshops this February. Furthermore, to celebrate the occasion, there will be a full evening of entertainment showcasing some of the best African drumming and dance acts in the country, including including Tolo Ko Tolo, Hamana, and our very own Tanante with Iya Sako.

Last night we delivered our first independent ‘Solo for the terrified’ workshop outside the festival circuit. The idea and title of this style of workshop was coined by the organisers of African Beats Camp festival; since then we’ve been leading them at the drumming festivals for the last few years. Observing how successful and popular they have been, and having received excellent feedback from many people who have participated; it is clear that djembe players and aspiring soloists all over the place could potentially benefit from these workshops.
